Surrounding Sand Mountain Area

Sand Mountain is the largest plateau in the Appalachian Mountain chain, spanning 5 Alabama counties and some counties in Northwest Georgia and Southern Tennessee. With an average elevation of 1,500 feet above sea level, Sand Mountain has the coolest climate in Alabama. Sand Mountain is known for its sandy soil, and excellent tomatoes! It is mostly a rural, agricultural area, with a mix of chicken, cow, and potato farms, as well as other assorted farms, and large expanses of both rolling pastures and woods. Albertville is known as the “heart of Sand Mountain” as its largest town, and It contains many small towns (less than 1,000 people) and unincorporated communities.
